Things You Should Know about Visiting Windsor Co Breweries
Breweries like to focus on what they do best, make fantastic and unique beers so most breweries are not restaurants. Some breweries have rotating food trucks or are location next to restaurants that you can order deliver or in many cases literally walk next door to pick up food. You could also Uber Eats or Door Dash just about anything to a brewery.
Breweries are not bars, so if you are visiting a craft brewery your drink options usually consist of beer or root beer. Mixed drinks or wine are not available in a brewery.
Breweries are generally family friendly. Rules change so it’s always wise to call and check before heading to a breweries with a large group that includes children but for the most part there are no age restriction for breweries visitors, just beer drinkers.
Most breweries with outdoor patios are pet friendly, this is Colorado after all!
Windsor CO Brewery List
Mash Lab Brewing
Mash Lab Brewing has a very cool atmosphere inspired by hot rods and custom cars. Mash Lab shares a space with Pinkee’s Rod Shop a glass wall separates the 2 businesses. You can check out the cool modifications being done in the shop as you enjoy a great brew with friends. Mash Labs Brewing is expanding to increase capacity and to offer restaurant food. As of Sept 2020, food options is rotating food trucks. No food options available in the direct area. Mash Labs Brewing usually has about 11 drafts on tap.
Mighty River Brewing
Mighty River Brewing is a local Windsor favorite. Mighty River offers an open air feel with several big garage doors to open on warm days and a patio for enjoying the weather. Mighty River has TV to enjoy watching the games and they have nights with live music. Mighty River also has an event space to plan your next special occasion.
Mighty River Brewing has rotating food trucks and it’s located next to PizzaVino NoCo Italiano, which offers amazing pizza and homemade pasta, perfect to pair with a Mighty River draft.
High Hops Brewery
High Hops Brewery offers a unique location. High Hops Brewery is a manufacturing brewery and distillery operating inside a garden center on farmland that grow its own hops! High Hops has a rotation of food trucks and there are no other food options in walking distance. Adjacent to the brewery there is the Heart Distillery that offers spirits, cocktails, and spiked seltzer, however if you go with other people and some want beer and some want spirits you have some choices to make. Since each the brewery and distillery operate under different liquor licenses you can’t take products outside of the designated areas.
High Hops has made some changes due to Covid 19 and have placed an over 21 restriction in place for patrons. You need to be over 21 for the distillery at all times however you should call before visiting the brewery to find out if this policy is still in place for your upcoming visit.
High Hops Brewery does offer brewery tours, which are on hold due to Covid 19.
Peculiar Ales
Peculiar Ales opened in the summer of 2020 and I personally have fallen in love with this place. First my favorite thing might be that it’s open daily! Peculiar Ales has a very spacious and open indoor area and a HUGE back patio and grass area with lots of tables and SHADE! By far one of the largest spaces for a Windsor based brewery. Peculiar Ales has rotating food trucks, however since it’s located in the Windsor Mill and on Main St there are tons of food options nearby. You can order from Cacciatore, Windsor Mill Tavern, and Hearth to name a few. Peculiar Ales has approximately 7 brews on tap to include a joint brew with Mash Labs.
Peculiar Ales might literally be the “ new kid on the block” but it’s fast becoming a local favorite or at least my favorite.
Inside Perspective on Windsor Breweries
Picking a favorite Windsor brewery is almost like asking me to pick a favorite child. They are all so wonderful and bring me so much joy and all have their own unique qualities. I find some Windsor breweries have better beers than other and some breweries have a better atmosphere and food options than others.
Mighty River has good beer and good food options and is in an amazing location if you live in Highland Meadows. If you are both hungry and thirsty, head to Mighty River. Mighty River is located near houses and a parking lot so the outdoor view is limited.
Mash Lab Brewing might have some of my favorite beers selection. They are expanding this brewery and I really can’t wait to see what the expansion will look like because it’s much needed. Currently Mash Lab Brewing is on the smaller side, they have a cool hot rod feel because you can see the body shop and cool cars however the outdoor area is just a parking lot. You also need to bring your own food or call to see if they have a food truck. I usually order “Fog Lamp” when I visit Mash Labs. I usually order the “Mad Dog IPA,” however I want to head over there to taste their Autumn River Pumpkin Ale.
High Hops Brewery wins the highest mark in my book for best views. The patio setting with hops dangling from the trellis in the gardens with beautiful mountain views beyond them is simply awesome. I haven’t found my favorite brew at High Hops yet, but I just keep going back and trying them all. I will never give up! I usually order the “Hoppy One” however I also like the “Blueberry Wheat”.
Peculiar Ales is quickly becoming my favorite spot. I love the indoor space, although I have yet to spend any time inside when it’s been so nice outside. I love that they have tables and chairs with umbrellas inside of picnic bench seating like other breweries. I also love the food options that are available nearby and of course the beer. I’m really digging their Hazy IPA “I Can’t See in the Thing”, however if you are into sour beers try the Key Lime Sorbet.
I just love that you don’t need to leave Windsor to enjoy great local craft beer! Just another reason why I Live Love Windsor! I would love to hear about your favorite Windsor brewery and beer leave what you love in the comments!
